KT 5G

KT 5G is a group of outdoor sculptures installed in central Seoul, South Korea. The sculptures express the main features of a 5G communication service, which are high speed, low latency and wide connectivity. Bright colors, patterns and arrow shapes represent connectivity, speed and data flow, while drones and autonomous driving refer to familiar uses of the technology. The sculptures are made of steel plates that were bent and welded, then finished with urethane paint. Smaller sculptures also serve as benches, so the installation forms an artistic resting place along a busy walking route.

Coral

Coral is a handmade teapot inspired by the intricate forms and textures of sea corals. The single handle allows the teapot to be held from all directions, overhead, from the left or from the right, reflecting the many ways different cultures handle a teapot. An indent at the back of the body allows the teapot to be pinched and lifted. The design of the lid is integrated into the handle, so the lines flow around the whole form. Coral is made of coil-constructed, altered, carved and textured earthenware, finished with shino glaze and fired in oxidation.

UnBespoke

UnBespoke is a modular tabletop object made from Indiana limestone. Four triangulated stone pieces are designed to hold tea light candles or small plants. The pieces can be arranged as a square, as an equilateral triangle, or in other formations chosen by the user. The design stems from the Haberdasher Puzzle, a mathematical problem that shows how to cut a square into pieces that form an equilateral triangle. When the pieces are rotated, the undulated interior edges of the square appear on the perimeter of the triangle. The object is modelled in 3D and cut by CNC machining.

Black Star

Black Star is a decorative vessel handcrafted from alder wood. The design transforms a wood species with little grain or colour into an object that is pleasing to the eye and interesting to touch. The outer form is shaped by woodturning, and the inside is hollowed with bent tools. Many small holes are then drilled by hand and formed into cones, and an orange stain is applied inside them. A pyrographic pen adds small star motifs. The surface is finally charred black, which creates a soft, warm touch and strong contrast. The vessel measures 220 by 220 by 180 millimetres.
